Seek God First Fast

A Church-Wide Guide to Fasting as Alignment, Not Performance.

Series Context: Seeking God First 2026

Fasting removes interference so our faith can operate with clarity.

We are not fasting to persuade God, prove our spirituality, or lose weight, but to remove whatever competes with Him. We are not fasting to settle our faith, but to silence and remove anything that unsettles it.

Collectively, we are: Silencing competing appetites, Restoring spiritual sensitivity, Protecting certainty, and Removing resistance to obedience. This fast is inclusive and not extreme. These instructions may seem easy or lenient to some but understand that they are designed to move us together, as a Church body.

✔ New believers
✔ Mature saints
✔ Youth (with parental guidance)
✔ Seniors (exercise discretion and wisdom)

Participation is encouraged, not coerced. God honors posture, not pressure. Each participant should select ONE fast, Prayerfully and realistically.

 Recommended Duration: 3 Days
Short enough to be sustainable. Long enough to be transformative. (Individuals may extend

prayerfully if led)

Daniel-Style Food Fast (Partial)

Emotional / Behavioral Fast

  • Complaining
  • Negative self-talk
  • Emotional spending
  • Gossip
  • Impulsive reactions

Purpose: Expose and dismantle internal interference.

Sometimes the loudest appetite isn’t food—it’s control.

DAILY FASTING RHYTHM

Morning (5–10 minutes)

Pray aloud: “Lord, I agree with what You have already decided. Remove anything that dulls my sensitivity to Your Spirit.”

Read: Matthew 6:33; Romans 8:14

Midday (Pause Moment)

Ask: What appetite is trying to speak right now? What would alignment look like in this moment?

Evening (Reflection Before Bed)

Journal one sentence: What became clearer today once the noise quieted? No guilt. No over-spiritualizing. Just awareness.

You may experience:
• Irritability (exposed appetite)
• Emotional clarity
• Heightened discernment
• Reduced anxiety
• Conviction without condemnation

Discomfort is not failure—it’s an indicator.

WHAT NOT TO DO

🚫  Do not announce or perform your fast publicly

🚫  Do not judge others’ choices

🚫  Do not fast without prayer

🚫  Do not ignore medical wisdom

Remember Jesus’ instruction on fasting:

Matthew 6:16-18 “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.””

 FAST DECLARATION
“Lord, today I quiet my flesh, not because faith is weak, but because faith is settled. Remove interference. Restore clarity. Strengthen obedience as I seek You first. In Jesus Name, Amen."
